The historic censoring of the male form in art is a power play. The male gatekeepers who manage the systems they’ve established do not wish to be seen as vulnerable, so controlling how the public perceives them is a priority. And if they can manage images of themselves, what could stop them from controlling all forms of human representation? My nudes not only represent the individuals who sat for me; they also serve as a reminder that representing men, uncensored, can open the door to positive change.
